eLBX Online Day 7 – xAPI in Action – Storyline Edition
Today we dug into using xAPI with Articulate Storyline and it was eye-opening! eLearning Brothers developer Bill Milstid joined us to share his wisdom.
Just a few things to know about xAPI before we get started.
Tin Can = the Experience API = xAPI
Yup, they’re all the same thing! xAPI went through a few different names as it was starting out and you may hear it called by any of those, or labeled as any of those, depending on what tool you’re using and who you’re talking to. It’s all the same thing.
What’s the difference between xAPI and SCORM?
Much like SCORM, xAPI is a JavaScript-based communication specification. xAPI is different from SCORM in that sends highly detailed info to a Learning Record Store (LRS). SCORM sends more limited info to a Learning Management System (LMS).
Bill went into much more detail about what xAPI can do, what Storyline’s out-of-the-box support for xAPI is, and how you can get even more data from Storyline by doing a little bit of your own work with xAPI.
There were a ton more questions we ran out of time for! We’ll be sharing the answers to those on the blog later in the week.
If you missed today’s session, don’t worry! All the recordings and presentations will be archived on our site at the end of the week.
